A new month means a new list of FREE events for the family. Whether you’re looking for a marshmallow drop, something hands-on, or you want to check out a museum there’s something for everyone. We’ve found the best family-friendly events happening around Metro Detroit without spending a time. Check out the list below!

Cranbrook Institute of Science (Bloomfield Hills): Friday, April 4
Get ready for free fun at the Cranbrook Institute of Science! On the first Friday of each month admission is free after 5pm. Enjoy all of the permanent exhibits, outdoor science garden, nature trails, and free admission to the Cranbrook Observatory during its hours of operation. Pre-registration is required.

Community Appreciation Day @ The Ford House (Grosse Pointe Shores): Saturday, April 5
You’re invited to explore and see what makes The Ford House so special on their community appreciation day. Guests can wander through lush gardens, tour the historic home, and immerse yourself in the exhibitions. Pre-registration is strongly recommended to secure your spot.

Spring Carnival (Warren): Saturday, April 5
The annual Spring Carnival returns to the Warren community center for a day filled with fun. Activities include visiting with the Easter Bunny, egg hunt, inflatables, balloon sculptures, airbrush face painting, seed planting with the Warren Garden Club, bike helmet raffle, and more! The event runs from 10am – 1pm.

Unicorn Day @ Bakers Nook (Saline): Saturday, April 5
Do you have a unicorn enthusiast at home? Head to the Baker’s Nook in Saline as it transforms into a whimsical wonderland for Unicorn Day. Get ready to decorate your own unicorn cookie. Pasties, goodies, and endless sprinkles await – but hurry, the cookie decorating magic disappears when the supplies run out!

Home Depot Kid Workshops (multiple locations): Saturday, April 5
Earth Day is April 22nd and what better way to celebrate than by making a globe planter. Pre-registration is required.

Marshmallow Drop @ Steffens Park (Fraser): Saturday, April 12
Did someone say FREE marshmallow drop? Drops are divided into 3 time slots (based on age) and marshmallows will be turned in for goodie bags. Additional activities include meeting the Easter Bunny, petting zoo, pony rides and face painting, so make sure you bring your camera! Online registration required.

Greenfest @ Belle Isle Nature Center (Detroit): Saturday, April 12
This free, family-friendly event is packed with exciting eco-friendly activities, outdoor adventures and opportunities to protect our planet. Dive into participatory science initiatives that help protect our waterways and connect with local conservation experts through engaging demonstrations that showcase the power of sustainability. Don’t miss this chance to go green!

Spring Stroll – Downtown Birmingham: Saturday, April 12
Head to downtown Birmingham for an afternoon of fun! Attendees will receive a shopping bag, activity sheet, and a list of participating retailers. Choose the retailers you want to visit, enter giveaways, and complete the activity sheet (completed sheets receive a prize). Registration required.

Kids’ Workshop @ Lowe’s (multiple locations): Saturday, April 12
April’s craft is a Lowe’s Herb Greenhouse! Kids can build their very own mini-greenhouses to grow herbs for easy recipes. This fun, hands-on project helps kids learn about gardening and introduces them to sustainable living while encouraging responsibility and care for plants. Registration required.

Charles H. Wright Museum (Detroit): Sunday, April 13
Every second Sunday of the month, come and visit The Wright Museum and enjoy FREE admission to all of the exhibits, special programming, and events.

Marshmallow Drop @ Elizabeth Park (Trenton): Friday, April 18
Thousands of marshmallows will be dropped from a helicopter and into Elizabeth Park in Trenton. This free event will be divided into 3 age groups. Marshmallows will be turned in for a prize.

Marshmallow Drop @ Nankin Mills Park (Westland): Friday, April 18
Get ready to watch the marshmallows rain from the sky. This non-competitive event will be divided into 3 age groups where only one marshmallow is needed for a prize.

Marshmallow Drop @ Worden Park (Royal Oak): Friday, April 18
This free event begins at 10 a.m. at Worden Park at the corner of Lexington Boulevard and Crooks Road in Royal Oak. Watch in amazement as 15,000 marshmallows are dropped from a helicopter. Participants then need to collect only one marshmallow that can be exchanged for a prize. There will be 4 drop zone locations, including one for individuals with disabilities.

Earth Day Extravaganza @ Nankin Mills Recreation Area (Westland): Saturday, April 26
Come celebrate our great planet at the annual Earth Day Extravaganza. This all-ages event takes place from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. Activities include live birds of prey, games, crafts, live music from Joe Reilly, Bees in the D, nature hikes, inflatables, educational tables and more.

Healthy Kids Day @ The YMCA (multiple locations): Saturday, April 26
The annual Healthy Kids Day returns at all metro-Detroit YMCA locations. This free event features a variety of family-friendly activities to encourage healthy kids, healthy families, and a healthy start to the summer season. Healthy Kids Day is open to the public.
