The Michigan Panthers are excited to be back in Detroit for another season, this time part of the United Football League! Ahead of the 2024 season, the USFL and XFL merged to create the UFL, which has become the premier spring football platform, under the combined ownership of RedBird Capital Partners, FOX, Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson. The UFL has eight teams in Arlington (TX), Birmingham (AL), Detroit (MI), Houston (TX), San Antonio (TX), Memphis (TN), St. Louis (MO), and Washington D.C.

The Panthers are still coached by longtime NFL head coach and defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. The team started the season with three straight home games at Ford Field, going 2-1 with wins over the St. Louis Battlehawks and Houston Roughnecks, and the team’s defense has been the backbone of the team so far this year. But some individuals in special team’s and on offense have created some highlights early in the year.

Michigan kicker Jake Bates took the league by storm drilling a 64-yard field goal to win the game in Week 1 against the Battlehawks. The kick went viral and he was featured on numerous national media broadcast. Bates followed that up with a 62-yard field goal in his second game and started the season going 5-for-5 on field goal kicks.

Panthers’ quarterback EJ Perry, who played in one regular season game last season and helped the team earn a playoff berth, is back again and this year he has shown off playmaking abilities with his arm and his legs. To start the season, he ranks in the top-5 amongst quarterbacks in numerous passing categories and led the league in rushing scores. He’s connected twice with wide receiver Marcus Simms for long touchdowns. Their first connection was for 76 yards in Week 2 and second was for 66 yards in Week 3.

On Sunday, May 5th, the Michigan Panthers are celebrating all Kids! Kickoff is at 1pm but the doors at Ford Field open at 12pm. Arrive early and visit the Kids Zone at Gate G before the game to meet Pablo the Panther, receive your First Game Certificate and make a cheer sign for the team!
