Visit Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve
Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve is one of the coolest places to visit in metro Detroit. Get a Rocky Mountain experience close to home and let the kids climb on rocky terrain, hills and pathways. Afterwards, take a stroll through the nature trail (it’s stroller friendly) and make your way to the overlook onto five-acre Carpenter Lake.
Bring your camera because the grounds are beautiful and the perfect place for family photos. There’s a large public parking lot in front of the rock park and nature trail. There are also public restrooms that are open all year.

Freeway Park
Freeway Park is a hidden pocket park tucked between 696 and Greenfield Road. There is a parking lot located off Lincoln Drive and the playground is a few steps away but well enclosed for kids who like to run around and play. There is a tot lot for littles with swings and a larger playground that is accessible for those who need it but also great for climbers. Kids of all ages will enjoy the space and you can bring your bikes, scooters and strollers to enjoy around the paved walking path. Address: 16081 Lincoln Dr, Southfield

Bauervic Woods Park
Built right in the middle of the woods. This park features two play structures for both big and little kids! The big one is excellent for the child who loves to climb! Both structures are fairly close to each other, which gives parents with multiple kids a slight break. Pack your hiking boots and take a shaded trail walk while you are there! Inglenook Park
Your littles will love spying their favorite farm animals throughout the farm themed play structure. Ingenook Park is not only designed to look like a barn but there’s one on site that will especially excite the kids. The accessible playground has something for everyone. There are bathrooms (during spring/summer season) and picnic areas too. The park is also a 5 minute drive from the Southfield Public Library which is one of our absolute favorites. Civic Center Park
Civic Center Park is a WINNER! The large new plaground is located next to the Southfield Public Library (one of our top 3 in metro Detroit) and next to a nature trail. Let your kids climb, swing and slide before winding down with a good books in the tree house or dragon den. Address: 26000 Evergreen Rd

Bedford Woods Park
A great park for younger climbers, the playground is challenging but close to the ground (easy for mom or dad to stay close by). In addition to the structure the kids will love the merry-go-round, partner swing and zipline! Address: 29500 Lathrup Blvd

Pebble Creek Park
Hidden off the freeway and in the back of a commercial complex, once you find it, it’s a great place to play! If you have kids who love to climb, the tree top themed structure will keep them entertained. There’s also a smaller structure for toddlers and swings – including a hammock! Address: 26389 American Dr
