Mark your calendars for one of the most colorful and joyful summer traditions in Detroit — the Detroit Kite Festival is returning to Belle Isle on Sunday, July 13th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it’s completely FREE to attend!

Held at the beautiful Cricket Field near the James Scott Memorial Fountain, this family-friendly event brings together people of all ages to celebrate the simple joy of flying kites. Whether you’re an experienced kite flyer, a curious beginner, or just looking for a relaxing day outdoors, this is a can’t-miss summer event for Metro Detroit families.

What to Expect

Since launching in 2017, the Detroit Kite Festival has brought families and communities together under a sky full of soaring colors. The event invites everyone to bring their own kitemake one on-site, or simply kick back and watch the sky dance.

It’s a fun, low-pressure, screen-free day in the fresh air — and one of LittleGuide Detroit’s favorite annual events.
