Kids Night In @ The Nature Center

It’s Kid’s Night at the Nature Center! This drop-off program is designed to be a special evening camp for kids! Campers will get to create a special keepsake craft, explore the nature center trails after dark, and have a bonfire with s’mores. Snacks provided but we recommend having participants eat something more substantial before drop-off!

Maple Sugaring: Sap Happy Event

- Where: Johnson Nature Center, Bloomfield Hills
Join us this maple sugaring season for a tour of our Sugarbush! Discover how to identify and tap the perfect sugar maple tree and enjoy the sights, smells, and tastes of the sweet syrup-making process in our Sugar Shack and Log Cabin. Self-guided tours begin every half hour from 9:30a – 2:30p with numerous activities available at your own pace.

Plan on taking a hike through the sugar bush of the Stage Nature Center on one of these three days! Discover how maple trees make sugar and people harvest it. This family-friendly program highlights natural and local history of our region. Tour includes activities to learn more about syrup making.

Why not share all the fun together? We’ve decided to try out a new format for our former Cub Club and Young Explorers programs, inviting all participants ages 3-10 for a combined experience, with separate focus activities for the different age groups. We’ll explore a different topic each month, beginning with an introductory activity for everyone, followed by age-appropriate activities. Activities may or may not include outdoor exploration, so please come prepared for the weather!

Discover the magic of maple syrup-making at Ford House! Join us for an experience exploring the art of tapping trees and crafting that delicious syrup we all love. From learning the perfect time of year to tap a tree to witnessing the journey from sap to syrup, it’s an adventure for the whole family!

Identify and tap a maple tree, tour the sugar shack, explore fun maple-themed activities, take a wagon ride, taste maple sap, syrup, and sugar, and explore maple tools and technology. Enjoy an ‘all-you-can-eat pancake celebration in the historic 19th-century barn. Pancakes (prepared by Chris Cakes of Michigan), sausage, and of course, pure maple syrup will be provided!

Take a short journey to our Sugarbush and experience how maple syrup has been made over the years. Learn how to tap a tree, and then visit the evaporator to see the sap being boiled into syrup. There is no better way to finish out the cold days of winter and get ready for spring.

- Where: Kensington Farm Center, Milford
ake a guided walk through the farm’s Sugar Bush. Learn how to pick the right maple tree, then watch how maple trees are tapped and sap is collected. Stop by the French and Native American camps to hear and see how these techniques have changed through the years. Then visit the Sugar Shack to see and smell the sap being boiled down into maple sugar. Real maple sugar products will be available for purchase at the Farm Center Office. Tours begin every half hour, last approximately one hour and require registration.

This program is entirely outdoors. Most of this 1 hour program will be spent walking. The planned path is dirt and gravel, mostly flat and level. No prior experience is necessary.

This engaging tour begins with a wagon ride to the forested area of Maybury Farm. There you will walk into the sugar bush where you’ll learn the amazing way sugar maple trees produce sap, why sap flows, how to tap and collect sap from the tree. The wagon will then take you to the Sugar Shack where you’ll learn how the sap becomes delicious maple syrup by watching the process in action! You’ll even get to try a sample of the finished product!
Corktown’s St. Patrick’s Parade

- Where: Corktown, Detroit
The parade typically attracts 80,000-100,000 people, making it one of the largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country and it features floats, marching bands, color guard units and more.
