Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow. Greenmead Historical Park offers a FREE outdoor ice rink and Snow Village making it a must-visit Snow Day destination for families.
Pack up your ice skates and head to Livonia to test out the free outdoor rink that is open to the public. Located next to the farm complex, you’ll find seats along the perimeter and a portable restroom for those who need it.
As a frequent visitor to Greenmead, this was motivation to buy ice skates for my family and it is a good investment. I found a used pair of skates for $20 for my son at Play It Again Sports and a $50 pair for me (with an average skate rental cost of $5, they’ll pay for themselves within 10 skate trips and I don’t expect my shoe size to change).
When you need a sledding hill, Greenmead offers a 360 hill top located at the entrance of the nature trail or visitors can use the parking lot south of the park’s Newburg entrance. The hill is the perfect size – big enough for fun rides but not too big for tired legs.
Do you want to build a snowman? Families can show off their snowman building skills and create a new friend to occupy Snow Village.
The reason you’ll most often find my family at Greenmead is for the Virginia Matley Nature Trail. The half mile long nature trail is the perfect length for little legs and a great walk any time of the year.
