If you’re looking for tree top fun, we’ve got it for you. From tree houses to stay and play to nature inspired playset for an afternoon of fun – here are the best ‘tree house’ destinations for metro Detroiters.

Howell Nature Center – Howell


The Howell Nature Center is one of our favorite places to visit animals, take a nature walk and let the children run around the playground – the treehouse forts and canopy walks are pretty cool for parents and kids alike! The fun doesn’t stop when the temperatures drop either. There’s a new Raptor Hill for sledding on snowy days and exciting events all through the year.

Open 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for kids ages 3 to 17. Ages 2 and under are free!

For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum – Flint


Get out the house and to For-Mar. The Nature Preserve has beautiful walking trails, a tree house and nature center – all FREE! The rustic trail isn’t too long for little legs but warning it can get muddy. Our kids loved exploring and using the map and markers to lead the way. The nature center has multiple rooms with activities and animals

Merriman Hollow Park – Westland


The massive treetop themed playground is great for kids who love to climb and be adventurous.

Sumac Park – Livonia


Wayne County has been upgrading playgrounds along Hines Drive and this new one next to Newburgh Lake will be a regular visit for us. Address: 37507 Edward N Hines Dr, Livonia, MI 48150

 

Clintonwood Park – Clarkston


Clintonwood is an active park consisting of 120 acres. It backs up to Independence Oaks, an Oakland County Park. The park features a walking trail (9/10 of a mile), a gaga ball pit and mini basketball pad, 3 full-sized tennis courts & 4 youth tennis courts, 4 pickleball courts, 4 sand volleyball courts, the Renee Przybylski Memorial Spray Park, 4 baseball fields, 3 softball fields (2 lighted), 4 soccer fields, the Ryan Kennedy Memorial Playground, and 2 picnic pavilions. All baseball, softball and soccer fields are for reservation and league play only. There is also a large open space area with 3 grills

Thorn Park – Brownstown


Thorn Park has a little bit of EVERYTHING! With two playgrounds, a splash pad AND a “safety town” – you’re sure to keep busy on this outing! And did we mention it’s almost completely fenced in?! TreeRunner Adventure Park – West Bloomfield


Kids  6 and older will have a blast trying  60 exciting obstacles and zip lines at the Aerial Forests in West Bloomfield and Rochester.

Dow Gardens – Midland


Whiting Forest of Dow Gardens features 54 acres of woodlands, ponds, apple orchard, meadows, and stream. Guests of all ages and abilities are immersed in the forest on the nation’s longest canopy walk, 1,400 feet long, soaring up to 40 feet above the ground.
