Tiny creatures are making a huge impression at John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids this summer! The all-new Power of Pollinators exhibit is now open and runs through November 23, bringing science to life with more than 20 larger-than-life animatronic pollinators—including buzzing bees, flapping butterflies, and even a few surprises.
These towering animatronic creatures don’t just sit pretty—they move and make sounds, giving visitors an unforgettable way to learn about the essential role pollinators play in our environment. The exhibit is included with regular Zoo admission and offers interactive fun for all ages. The exhibit includes:
- 20+ Giant Animatronic Pollinators: Walk among oversized robotic insects and birds designed to educate and amaze.
- Two Climbable Sculptures: Perfect for play and photo ops.
- Local Conservation Spotlight: Learn about the Poweshiek skipperling butterfly, a critically endangered species native to Michigan. John Ball Zoo is leading efforts to bring this tiny butterfly back from the brink of extinction.

John Ball Zoo is a hidden oasis. Take the Funicular ($4 per person) up the hilly terrain to the top of the zoo and begin your adventure. The Zoo is organized by continenent and animal habitats can be viewed by guests from multiple angles and entry points. You’ll enjoy seeing the animals surrounded by greenspace with engaging elements like bridges and climbers to keep them busy. The zoo has over 1,300 animals including lions, tigers, chimpanzees, red pandas, and newly homed koalas.
John Ball Zoo is open Monday thru Friday from 10am to 4pm and from 9am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $21.95 for guests ages 13 and older and $16.95 for kids ages 3 to 12.
