Meet Christine

Hey there! My name is Christine Brisse, I’m a mom to two boys, Benjamin (5) and Liam (2). My husband, Ryan, and I are approaching our 9 year wedding anniversary. Shortly after graduating from culinary school, Ryan and I moved to Chicago for 4 years which is where our journey to parenthood began. As we were approaching Benjamin’s first birthday, we made the decision to move back to Michigan to be closer to family.

When Benjamin started preschool, I decided to turn my passion for baking into a home-based, small-scale, made-to-order baking operation that I named Cake Mitten (our logo is a play on the silhouette of Michigan, hence the Mitten reference)–  and in just under five years, I decided to take the plunge and follow my dreams to open my own bake shop. I offer a variety of sweets that are whimsical and fun for kids and adults alike — and most importantly, satisfying to your taste buds! My sons are my biggest inspiration (and most loyal taste-testers) and I can’t wait for them to be involved with the evolution of the business.

Our website is www.CakeMitten.com and we can be found on Facebook and Instagram

Favorite Ways To Spend Family Time:

  • Spending time at our cabin on Higgins Lake
  • Making cookies and having the boys decorate them.
  • Playing board games.

Favorite Places To Go:

Favorite Bedtime Stories:

Favorite Family-Friendly Restaurants:

Best Park/Playground: Waldenburg Park (Macomb)

As a Macomb Township resident, my family always enjoys Waldenburg Park. Their play structures keep the boy busy for hours and there’s a great walking/bike path where my oldest son loves to search for wildlife.

Best Family-Friendly Annual Event: Terror on Tillson Street (Romeo)

Around Halloween, visiting and walking Tillson Street in Romeo is a family favorite. If you’re not familiar, each year the homeowners on Tillson Street go over-the-top with their decorations and creativity and thoughtfulness is awe-inspiring. There’s no cost to tour the street and parking usually is manageable.

Your Mom Must-Have: Backpack Diaper Bag

I couldn’t live with my backpack diaper bag. My family is always on the go, so this is a must have for me! They’re much easier to tote around than your normal shoulder strap diaper bag. Also, I recently purchased an iPad holder that connects to our car’s headrests, so both boys can watch the same movie during long drives, which has been a lifesaver.

Best Summer Destination or Event: Flower Day at Eastern Market (Detroit)

We love attending Flower Day at the Eastern Market, they have the best variety and it’s important to us to support local.

“Pat Yourself on the Back” Accomplishment: Opening Cake Mitten Bake Shop

Opening my own bakery has been a long term goal and dream of mine. I’m proud to say my very own bake shop opened on June 1, 2021!
