  • Registration Dates: April 24- May 31
  • Season Dates: June 17- July 29 (Monday, Tuesday or Thursday)

NHL STREET is a reimagined version of hockey that’s played off the ice, making it easy for kids to jump in and play. There’s no need for skates, expensive gear, or prior experience—just a high-energy game focused on skill-building, teamwork, and fun. Kids will still pass, shoot, and score like traditional hockey, but in a more flexible format that keeps them moving and engaged the entire time. It’s the kind of sport where beginners feel comfortable trying something new, while more experienced players still stay challenged.

This program is designed for girls and boys ages 5 to 12, with age groups that make it easy for kids to play at the right level:

  • Ages 5–6 (K–1st)
  • Ages 7–8 (2nd–3rd)
  • Ages 9–10 (4th–5th)
  • Ages 11–12/13 (6th–8th)

Families can sign up at convenient locations across Metro Detroit, including:

  • Canton
  • Rochester
  • Macomb

The schedule is intentionally simple—perfect for busy summer calendars. Registration runs April 24 through May 31, with the season taking place June 17 through July 29. Games are held just one night per week (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday), and each session includes a 30-minute practice followed by a game, giving kids time to learn and then jump right into the action.

Getting started is easy, too. Equipment is minimal, and the league makes sure kids have what they need:

  • All players receive a team jersey
  • Wear athletic shoes and a mouth guard
  • Bring a street hockey stick if you have one (or use one provided)
  • Goalie gear is fully provided for kids who want to try it out

What families will love most is how easy and welcoming this program feels. It’s low-pressure, flexible, and built around helping kids stay active while building confidence and friendships. With just one commitment per week, it fits nicely alongside vacations, camps, and all the other fun that summer brings.

If you’ve been looking for a new activity that’s fun, inclusive, and easy to jump into, NHL STREET is definitely one to check out. It’s a fresh take on a classic sport—and a great way to keep kids moving all summer long.
