One of our favorite family traditions is back for summer 2025 — Reading & Rhythm on the Riverfront! This FREE literacy program invites kids and families to enjoy stories, music, and more along Detroit’s beautiful riverfront.
📅 Sessions run July 10 – August 15
🕙 Thursdays + Fridays at 10:00 AM & 11:30 AM
📍 Gabriel Richard Park (at the entrance of Belle Isle)
Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes and includes interactive storytelling — both live and projected on a large screen — plus music, free snacks, and a take-home book for every child who participates.
Pre-registration is required, and space fills quickly, so don’t wait!
Gabriel Richard Park provides the perfect backdrop with its scenic views and family-friendly vibe — and after your session, we highly recommend extending your day with a visit to nearby Belle Isle State Park.
Although a State Park Recreation Passport is required to drive onto the island ($14 annually, usually added when renewing license tabs), once you’re there, the activities are FREE and fantastic for families. Don’t miss these favorites:
- 🐠 Belle Isle Aquarium
- 🦌 Belle Isle Nature Center
- 🌼 Oudolf Garden Detroit
- 🏖️ Belle Isle Beach
- 🛝 Playgrounds & Nature Trails
