Storybooks come to life at the Southfield Public Library and if you haven’t been yet, you’ll want to start planning your visit.

The Children’s Department at the Southfield Library is one of the best in metro Detroit. Enter through the life-size ‘book door’ and be transported to a fantasyland featuring a book throne, dragon hideaway (complete with a sleeping…and SNORING DRAGON), a magic treehouse puppet stage and more. Kids can explore and parents can watch from the fireside.

Head there on Thursday mornings at 10:15am for their Baby Bounce Storytime (6-18 months), that includes 15 minutes of stories and songs and 15 minutes of socializing – where they blow big bubbles for the babies to play in. They also offer story times on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

Spend time outside, during the warm months you can read outside on the patio or take a stroll across the parking lot to the new playground. While you’re in Southfield, other places worth visiting are Carpenter Lake Nature Preserve (aka our favorite rock park), Bauervic Woods Park and Ingelnook Park (barnyard themed).
