Binder Park Zoo is just 2 hours from the Metro Detroit area, and is well worth the trip!

Binder Park Zoo is such a hidden gem of a zoo and absolutely adorable! See 100’s of different animal species up close and personal! Maybe you will even get a chance to feed one! We were lucky enough to stop by the Cassowary’s at the perfect time and feed their resident Cassowary (Doug) grapes through the fence. ($5 extra charge and well worth it).

Feeding Doug, the Cassowary

Play in the music garden or head to the Jurassic Zoo portion where you can dig for fossils, do a dinosaur puzzle or just check out the cool dinos. Be sure to look up to see the massive Brontosaurs! There are even some animatronic dinosaurs.

The zoo hosts two rides a train that goes around the zoo and a carousel, both cost a little extra. There is also a skylark high ropes course! A free petting zoo area and be sure not to forget the tram ride to Africa! There you can experience Giraffe’s up close, lions, monkeys and so many more animals! Many that free roam in a giant field, you never know what you will see!

The Zoo is perfect for strollers and is extremely shaded. Overall a great zoo for the money. They host very cute events. Check out their event page here.
Parent Hack: We highly recommend bringing bug repellent, and cash. The zoo adds a convenience fee for card usage. Also, plan for extra time to wait for the tram. It sometimes takes a little while for one to come around. It is a hike to go to the Africa area without it.

The Binder Park Zoo is open daily from May 1st through October 26th.
Admission is $18.75 per person 11 and up, $15.75 ages 2-11. Under 2 are FREE. Plus a $3.50 parking fee per car.
