The headlines out of Flint should read: A Must-Visit For Families, Lots of Kid-Friendly Fun! The trip to Flint isn’t long depending on where you are in metro Detroit and it’s definitely worth it. From top ranked museums to outdoor oasis, your kids will have a blast – and you will too!

Sloan Museum of Discovery

Sloan Museum of Discovery is one of our favorites places and offers something for EVERYONE! From hands-on science and makerspace to car displays and hands-on history, there’s plenty to do and you can easily spend an entire day there. The museum regularly hosts traveling exhibits and the current one Mazes & Brain Games run through May 19th.

Longway Planetarium

Next to the Sloan Museum of Discovery is the Longway Planetarium. Your kids will be awed by the display in the domed theater. From theater style shows to lecture style presentation (our littles LOVED the Skies Over Michigan show). On the second Saturday of each month at 11am, the planetarium hosts sensory-friendly shows.

Flint Public Library

Located next to the museums on the Flint Cultural Center campus, the Flint Public Library is a fun, free bonus stop. The library is beautiful and has a large Children’s Department with multiple places to play and a large collection of books. Your kids could be entertained for hours.

For-Mar Nature Preserve

Get out the house and to For-Mar. The Nature Preserve has beautiful walking trails, a tree house and nature center – all FREE! The rustic trail isn’t too long for little legs but warning it can get muddy. Our kids loved exploring and using the map and markers to lead the way. The nature center has multiple rooms with activities and animals.

Flint Children Museum

The Flint Childrens Museum offers a little bit of everything. For science kids there are play-based experiments to understand physics. For drama lovers there is dress-up area with a stage for your littles to put on a show. There is a veterinary area, the coolest mini grocery store, a toddler area, and so much more! A great activity for the pre-k kids.

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad

Crossroads Village & Huckleberry Railroad is a must for metro Detroit families. The historic village has multiple buildings for guests to explore including a dime store candy shop, working lumber mill and magic show at the Opera House. Experience life in the 1800s firsthand and that includes carnival entertainment! Littles won’t want to miss the carousel ride, Ferris wheel and other carnival rides located along Mott Lake. The stand-out attraction is Huckleberry Railroad. Sit in a stunning vintage passenger car or converted open air hauler for a 40-minute round trip ride through Flint. The 2024 season begins on May 25th.
