Get away for the day and take an hour drive to Port Huron for a GREAT time in Michigan.

Make A Splash

When you need a Great Lake, head to Lakeside Beach. In addition to the sandy beach shoreline, there’s a splash pad, playground and concessions area. Parking is $30 for the day. Lighthouse Beach is a few minutes away (or a 30 minute walk south of the shoreline). The beach is next to the boat channel so you can see them up close and you can see the Fort Gratiot Lighthouse (and take a tour). Parking is $20 and there is a cool new lighthouse themed playground.

Let Them PLAY

Port Huron has several AMAZING playgrounds that are minutes away from each other with easy parking options. Palmer Park is a gem with massive unique structures (ninja dome themed for big kids and hot air balloon for littles) and a kid size safety town. The star attraction is the FREE Super Slide! The slide is open Tuesdays – Sundays from June 18th to August 18th. The hours are 11am to 3pm Tuesdays – Sundays and evening hours from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.

There are several NEW play structures in Port Huron and these are playground designs you won’t find in metro Detroit. A couple to check out are:

  • Haynes Park (great for climbers – pictured above): 837 Poplar St, Port Huron, MI 48060
  • Mansfield Park (Dinosaur themed): 1115 Mansfield St, Port Huron, MI 48060
  • Optimist Park (zip line): 1400 Whipple St, Port Huron, MI 48060

Stroll The Riverfront

Play a game of eye spy (find boats on the water and unique structures on land) and take a stroll down the Blue Water River Walk. The one-mile walk along the St. Clair River shoreline, less than a mile downriver from the Blue Water Bridge.

Visit A Museum

Keep cool at one of Port Huron’s 4 museums. Experience Michigan history and maritime life at the Carnegie Center, Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, Huron Lightship or the Thomas Edison Depot Museum. The Carnegie Center currently features a special Barbie exhibit that is hands-on and offers the opportunity to play dress up. The Thomas Edison Depot Museum is located on the Riverfront and is engaging and hands on.
