The Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History is bringing a bit of Wakanda to Detroit. The new Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibit will feature the costumes of Black Panther, Malcom X, Do The Right Things and more!

Explore the artistic richness of story-telling through costume design. Ruth Carter’s artistry captures the eyes on screen and inspires creative thought in person. See how her Afrofuturistic pieces empower the female form, honor ancient cultures, and invoke a deep sense of representation unlike any other costumes experienced on screen.

In addition to the temporary exhibit, you can also explore history from the shores of Africa to the Streets of Detroit. Explore the contemporary art exhibit, Being Seen: What Does It Mean and learn about how trees are being transformed in Detroit at the D.Tree exhibit.

The Charles H. Wright Museum is open to the public Wednesday thru Sundays from 9am to 5pm. The museum is open until 7pm on Thursdays. Admission is $15 for adults and $12 for kids. Get a membership! Family membership is $65 for two adults and up to 4 children and includes unlimited free admission and 2 single visit guest passes. Families that visit on Thursday can enjoy free admission for kids ages 3 to 12 with the purchase of an adult ticket.
