Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) empowers girls ages 5 to 17 to create the world they want to live in and encourages them to make it better every day. The Girl Scouts program builds girls’ courage, confidence, and character by earning badges throughout the year and of course, building business skills with their popular annual cookie sales.

If you’re looking for a way to help your daughter/neice/grandchild make friends, have fun, find adventure and give back to the community, check out the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan. Kids can join Girl Scouts once they start kindergarten as Daises and progress throughout their K-12 years to become Ambassadors. There are hundreds of Girl Scouts troops in metro Detroit just waiting for you! It costs only $25 per year and you can search to find an area and age group that is right for you.

For girls who prefer to work independently, there is an individual option that allows you to earn badges, go camping and SELL COOKIES! Learn more about joining Girl Scouts as a Juliette.

We all know (and LOVE) the Girl Scouts for their cookie program. For 100 years, the Girl Scouts have been selling cookies in efforts to support their troops. From a homemade recipe shared in 1922, to the more recent cookie additions, the cookie program is more than a delicious treat, it teaches girls how to interact with costumers, take orders, create budgets and earn money to support troop activity throughout the year. Support a Girl Scout in your life or use the online search tool to get cookies delivered to your door by a local troop.

You can also find cookies every weekend at the Michigan Science Center through April 9th. Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan haateamed up with the museum for a new “Science of The Cookie” event series. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can watch special cookie cooking demonstrations from the Science Stage, and enjoy hands on fun at exhibits, including:

  • “Cookie Nightmares,” a guessing game using “cookie fails” to learn about the importance of each ingredient in a classic chocolate chip cookie,.
  • “Cookie Excavation,” where visitors can try out their archaeological skills and practice using tools as they carefully “excavate” chocolate chips from a cookie and map their location on a grid.

When you’re at MiSci, be sure to stop by the local troop table and support Girl Scouts by buying a box (or two) of cookies. As an added treat, LittleGuide Detroit is also giving away a FREE Annual Family Membership to the Michigan Science Center and 5 FREE Boxes of Cookies too!.
