The Joe Louis Greenway is a 27.5 mile path to connect parks and neighborhoods throughout Detroit and includes Dearborn, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The latest phase of the project opens to the public on Saturday, October 29th.

The pedestrian protected greenway loop will eventually connect 23 different Detroit neighborhoods and offer space to walk, run, stroll and play. Following the ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, October 29th families can explore the first stretch of the Greenway from the entrance at 8053 Joy Rd. The Joy Road ribbon cutting takes place from 10am to 12pm on Saturday and will include inflatables, games, pumpkin painting, hay rides, music, and more.

Other open access points of access are the Deqindre Cut and the the Dennis Archer Greenway. The Dequindre Cut Greenway is a two-mile gateway that connects the Detroit Riverfront/Outdoor Adventure Center to Eastern Market. Along the path visits can enjoy public art, natural play areas and recreation. The Dennis Archer Greenway is a 1.2 mile greenway that runs from the Detroit Riverwalk to East Vernor Highway, check it out and grab a coffee from The Red Hook along the way.

Families will especially look forward to the opening of Warren Gateway Trailhead Park (pictured) at Warren and Livernois in Spring 2023. The 4 acre space will feature a great lawn area, fitness equipment, restrooms, community meeting space and an Earthscape Play monumental playground tower called Unity. The two playground towers mirror each other and between them, a circle forms to create something whole in a very tangible and literal way. Each tower offers a different play experience inside. The play area also includes a Giant Rope Swing, Log Jam climbers for both junior and senior play, a double bay swing set, wobble boards, rubber mounds, and plenty of spaces for seating and rest.
