If ‘ The Ledges’ at Fitzgerald Park in Grand Ledge isn’t on your to-visit list we suggest you add it. The nature trail is beautiful and the perfect destination for a family adventure.

Fitzgerald Park is a spectacular 78-acre park that offers incredible access to the famous sandstone ledges and ancient sedimentary rock outcroppings that line the banks of the Grand River. The nature trail is 2 miles in length (a mile each way if you walk to the end and turn around). With captivating sights and rustic trails, it will keep your kids engaged and without complaint. At the trail entrance, there is a playground on sand where kids can slide, swing and climb before or after the walk.

The rustic terrain is fun to explore but not stroller friendly. The trail also has narrow paths with a drop so it’s best for kids that can be worn in a pack or that are good listeners. The two-way traffic trail can also get crowded. With all that in mind, it’s worth the trip. You’ll feel like you went on vacation and can be back in time for dinner.

If you want to stick around town for a meal, Flour Child Bakery in downtown Grand Ledge is a mile away, delicious and family friendly. Order a sandwich, treats and find a seat in the cute diner.
