It’s a new year and time to think about MOM. If you’ve resolved to be a more effective leader in 2022 the Broad Executive MBA at Michigan State University is what you need.

Sometimes as professional women it can be difficult to take time to focus on our own needs and priorities. I‘m a mother of three children. I work full-time and my husband also works full-time. As a family, we understand the importance of education, so quitting my job to focus on my education was not an option.

Not long ago, I was an HR Specialist with a desire to do more. I became a manager. I started to develop my skills. And at that time, I decided to pursue the Broad Executive MBA program. I needed a program that had a little bit more flexibility. I found that the Executive MBA program integrates well with people who have families and for people who live busy lives.

The flexibility of the program, meeting every other weekend, made it perfect for me. It was completely worth it. 20 months after the program ended, the week leading into my graduation, I was offered a position with my current employer that advanced my career.

I’m the Senior Director of Human Resources for Dayco. My responsibilities have increased. I’m managing a much larger team, so I’m able to utilize the leadership skills that I developed throughout the program and apply them in my day-to-day position.

Set your expectations up front. You’ll find a schedule that works for you. For me, it was waking up early before work, before the kids are awake on the weekends. It’s about pushing yourself and pushing through those boundaries that you didn’t even know existed.

And that’s what being a leader is all about, overcoming obstacles, finding solutions, and delivering results. I invite you to explore how a weekend investment can turn into lifelong returns in this new year.
